Get Outside: Explore Bellevue's Parks!

Emma Sullivan, March 2, 2018

It's almost that time of year where the birds start to sing, the flowers start to push out of the ground, love is in the air, but most importantly, it's the time where us deprived Northwest dwellers look at the first glimpses of sunshine and pull out our flip flops.

I'm totally on board with this trend, including wearing birkenstocks in the rain, ditching my umbrella for a light fleece, and (my favorite part) heading to the nearest park to enjoy some cloud-filtered sunshine.

For anyone looking to enjoy this time of year in the same way I do, here are my top three favorite parks in and around Downtown Bellevue.

  • Bellevue Downtown Park - this park is the beating heart of Downtown Bellevue and is absolutely incredible. From the 'river' running around the outer ring (which I definitely played in so many times when I was younger) to the expansive green space, this is 'where it's at.' The park is great to run in, play volleyball in, watch outdoor movies in during the summer, or even (for a time two years ago) to observe hordes of people playing Pokemon Go.
  • Chism Beach Park - I love the lake view and that it feels a little tucked away. This is the perfect spot for an early spring picnic or to unwind with a great book.
  • Bellevue Botanical Garden - just across the freeway from Downtown Bellevue, the Bellevue Botanical Garden might just be my favourite place in Bellevue during the spring. The garden offers informational lectures, garden tours, a coffee cart and more - all finished with some of the most beautiful flowers you'll see in the city! (I love taking short runs throughout the garden's many trails -there's even a rope bridge if you explore far enough).

*Meydenbauer Beach Park is also on my list of favorites but is currently under construction. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
