South Bellevue Park & Ride to close May 30

by Events Intern | Apr 21, 2017

park and rides closing

The South Bellevue Park-and-Ride lot will close on Tuesday, May 30 as part of construction of the East Link Light Rail extension from Seattle to Mercer Island, Bellevue and Redmond. Drivers who park at the facility will need to identify other parking or commute options while it is closed for construction.

A temporary southbound bus stop will be located across from the current South Bellevue Park-and-Ride, which will become an active construction zone. The northbound bus stop will remain in place with slight modifications during construction.  The future South Bellevue Station will include a new 1500-stall parking garage, and bus and paratransit transfer facilities. The new South Bellevue light rail station will open in 2023, but Sound Transit and the contractor will explore opportunities to open the park-and-ride sooner if possible.

Sound Transit has added new trips and additional service on Eastside bus routes to increase mobility. Sound Transit asks affected riders for their patience and understanding as crews work to significantly improve transit service in East King County. Drivers are encouraged to begin using alternate parking or commute options as early as possible. If you need help planning your custom commute, please visit chooseyourwaybellevue.org/commute-inquiry.

As part of the East Link construction, the Overlake Transit Center Park-and-Ride also will close May 1. Bus and shuttle service will remain open at the Overlake Transit Center through construction. East Link will extend light rail 14 miles from Seattle International District to Mercer Island, Bellevue and Redmond. When the extension is complete, people will be able to travel from the South Bellevue Station to the International District/Chinatown station in downtown Seattle in 14 minutes; and to the University of Washington in 24 minutes.
