Affordable Housing – Planning for Tomorrow
As the housing market continues to balloon, inflated prices have priced many prospective and current residents out of living in Bellevue. The increasingly urgent need for housing affordability impacts the entire community, namely our most vulnerable residents, core workforce, those aiming to enroll in our school districts, and older adults seeking to ‘age in place’. Residents have an opportunity this month to learn how the city has advanced its commitments in addressing affordable housing and how to participate in the work that remains through an upcoming Neighborhood Forum.
The city’s Affordable Housing Strategy was adopted in 2017 and provides a roadmap for the community to effectively collaborate on housing choices in Bellevue with emphasis on inclusivity and access. As part of that strategy, the city will host a Neighborhood Forum via ZOOM webinar Sept. 23, 6:30-8 p.m., focused on Affordable Housing – Planning for Tomorrow.
In the past year, the city accelerated its Affordable Housing Strategy to convert current planning efforts into action. At the forum, Mac Cummins, Bellevue’s Community Development Director, will provide an overview of the benefits of affordable housing in Bellevue, recent successes, and initiatives the city has pursued to encourage affordable housing expansion in the future.
Following the feature presentation, there will be time for Q&A and an open floor to comment about your priorities for affordable housing in Bellevue. RSVP to neighborhoodoutreach@bellevuewa.gov or call 425-452-6836 to receive the Zoom link to access the virtual forum.
For alternate formats, interpreters, or reasonable accommodation requests please phone at least 48 hours in advance 425-452-5372 (voice) or email neighborhoodoutreach@bellevuewa.gov. For complaints regarding accommodations, contact the ADA/Title VI Administrator at 425-452-6168 (voice). If you are deaf or hard of hearing, dial 711.
