Do you know the name Dr. Charles Drew? Considered to be "the father of blood banking," Dr. Drew navigated racism in medicine in the United States to become a pioneer in modern blood storage and transportation practices. In the shadow of WWII, Dr. Drew developed a method to separate and preserve plasma for up to two months. Wartime efforts to save lives on the battlefield under his leadership formed the model for modern blood banking.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. requires a blood transfusion. These patients receive the blood they need thanks to the legacy of Dr. Charles Drew. Honor his legacy by donating blood at Overlake Medical Center in February.
