The Bellevue Botanical Garden Society was founded in 1984 by Iris and Bob Jewett with the vision to establish a free public botanical garden for their local community. With generous support from Harriet and Cal Shorts, the project broke ground on 7.5 acres donated to develop the Bellevue Botanical Garden. The Society was then incorporated in January 1986 as a nonprofit organization. Since 1992, more than 53 acres have been added to the Garden in partnership with the City of Bellevue Parks and Community Services to create the community treasure Bellevue enjoys today.
