Snow, Skating, and a Few More Days… A look at This Season’s Downtown Ice Rink Presented by Symetra

With frosty weather taking over this past week, it felt like the perfect time to reflect on another great season of the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink presented by Symetra. As the largest covered skating experience in the region, the Ice Rink delivered many great memories this year… but don’t fret, the fun isn’t over quite yet! The Ice Rink is open for a few more days, closing January 20th – so make sure to get in your skating fill before then. As we count down to closing day, let’s look back at a few of the special events and fun happenings that made this season’s rink one of the best yet.

Husky Skate Day
We rounded up huskies from across the region and brought in the team from the University of Washington’s Alumni Association for a collegiate skating experience. Alumni received $4 off of admission to the Ice Rink, and attendees quite literally ate their UW pride with purple and gold cupcakes. A Husky Santa also made his rounds for a little dawg holiday cheer.

Jedi Skate Night
Bringing the galaxies to the ice, Jedi Skate night fashioned Star Wars themed music with our own cosplay character duo. Kids and adults alike could grab photos with Luke Skywalker and a friendly StormTrooper, plus snag a discount on admission if they came wearing their own galaxy gear.

Free Skate Mondays
We kept the Free Skate Mondays tradition alive this year, thanks to Bank of America. Anyone with a Bank of America credit or debit card snags free admission to the Ice Rink, every Monday. With a deal this good, Monday quickly became one of our busiest days to skate around with friends and family.

Library Appreciation Day
Do a little reading, do a little skating… on Library Appreciation Day, we partnered with our friends at the King County Library System to offer anyone with a library card free admission to the Ice Rink. From families to young professionals, library card holders came to skate.

Operating everyday since November 20th, including holidays, it wasn’t only special events that drew in the crowds. We saw daily skaters, families heading to the rink on the weekends, folks learning to skate after work – the 2019-2020 season was one of our best attended yet. And really, that’s all because of you! Thank you to everyone who made the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink a part of your holiday season this year… just don’t forget that the rink is still open; get those final skates in now through Monday the 20th!
