Escape From Reality With Reality Break Escapes

Escape From Reality With Reality Break Escapes

In between all the high-rise buildings lies a unique place where you can solve mysteries, piece together clues and escape reality. If you look close enough, you’ll find Reality Break Escapes, an entertainment destination for groups and mystery lovers. Owner Brenda Luper opened the escape room business in 2018 after experiencing one herself just two years before.

The basic concept of an escape room is simple: You have 60 minutes to look for clues and puzzles, ultimately solving your way through the mission. At Luper’s local business, she offers three rooms, each one with its own unique, fun theme. Giorgio Jimenez, event manager at Reality Break Escapes, explained that unlike other escape rooms, they put more emphasis on team building.

“Our rooms are less about competition and much more experimental. We want people to have a good time,” he said.

Their main revenue comes from corporate team-building events, giving employees from different businesses a chance to not only have fun but to learn from each other. Jimenez and Luper love seeing how everyone’s strengths synergize.

“It’s interesting to see how people can play different roles from what they do at work," Luper said. "Sometimes we see somebody whose role isn’t the leader on the team, but they become a leader in the room because they’re really good at puzzles and solving clues."

Events have been tough during the pandemic. As things began to suddenly change last year, Luper found a new way of doing business. They now offer virtual escape rooms, giving groups the full interactivity that comes with an in-person experience, all from the comfort of their home or office.

“Once we knew COVID-19 was sticking around longer, we had to think fast, figuring out ways to keep our business alive and keep people busy and connected with Reality Break Escapes," Luper said. "Virtual was the answer.”

Luper and Jimenez's main priority is now keeping everyone safe, sanitizing and wiping down all rooms, checking vaccination cards and creating a comfortable space for guests. While the hard times have hit, Luper isn’t ready to give up yet. She has hopes to open three to four new rooms, prioritizing corporate team building and larger groups. Luper also has plans to launch a new game, different from an escape room. The new game will have aspects of an escape room, but large groups can work together in an open-world experience.

Excited for the launch, she dedicates the hard work to the “Game Masters," her employees who continuously work with each customer to make sure they have a great experience every time they walk through the door.

“They’re the heart and soul of the company,” Luper said. “Our focus is to make sure our customers are having a great time and for our employees to enjoy what they do. Our business has always been a place where people can escape from reality for a little while and have fun. That’s our mission.”
