From Pillows to Face Masks, Soaring Heart Fulfills a Need in Bellevue

June 26, 2020 - by Kensey Wentworth

Heart of Bellevue:
Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company

Starting today, facial coverings are required in all public settings in Washington state. It’s unknown how long masks will be required for, but thankfully a local company in Bellevue is making the new accessory more comfortable.

For more than 30 years, Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company has been providing natural, non-toxic and organic sleep solutions. They opened a storefront on Old Main back in 2015 and have since provided the Bellevue community with handcrafted products including mattresses, comforters, pillows and more.

Mike Schaefer, owner and founder of Soaring Heart, is committed to producing quality products from the best raw materials available. When COVID-19 came, he realized people weren’t buying mattresses.

“We thought about what we could produce for our community that would keep us busy, and decided on certified organic cotton masks,” said Schaefer. “They’re not in fancy colors, but they’re soft and comfortable. Think of your favorite pillow—not fancy, but comfortable.”

Face masks are available in three sizes, all-natural cotton and washable. All Soaring Heart products are made with certified organic products; no fumigants, perfumes, polyesters or other added ingredients.

“We know exactly what’s in every product,” said Schaefer. “There are lots of ingredients that get added to fabric that are not part of our supply chain. Our materials are much safer for kids, babies, and others with sensitivities.”

GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY

Soaring Heart has been busy beyond their Bellevue storefront. In early March at the start of the virus, Evergreen Hospital reached out and asked for help assembling N95 masks. Evergreen provided the materials, and Soaring Heart provided the seamstresses and assembly. As of June 25, they’ve assembled over 250 N95 masks for healthcare workers.

Soaring Heart also donates bedding to organizations in need. Locally, they’ve given supplies to Bellevue Boys & Girls Club, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Eastside homeless shelters, and many others.

REOPENING PLANS

Starting July 1, Soaring Heart will be open fulltime in Bellevue. They’ve added new safety procedures, including bath robes for laying on mattresses, required face masks and a smaller in-store capacity.

“We love it when people want to say hello. You don’t have to come in and buy a bed,” said Schaefer. “We want our community relationship to succeed. We need our neighborhood business to come back.”
